I am Legend, the movie released in 2007, is the third adaptation of Richard Matheson's novel of the same name. The first adaptation is the movies Last Man on Earth in 1964, and the second is the movie The Omega Man in 1971.
I am Legend is directed by Francis Lawrence.
It's the year 2012, in the ruins of New York City, Robert Neville (Will Smith), army virologist, struggles to survive hiding and fending off the infected survivors of a terrible virus and trying to discover a cure for this virulent disease. This virus is unstoppable, incurable and was originally made by man to cure cancer. Neville is familiar with and is partially the cause of this disease.
Inexplicable immune, Neville is now, along with his trusty dog Samantha, the last man in New York City, and probably the entire world. He is surrounded by " the infected", victims of the virus, who have mutated into carnivorous beings, that fear light and only come out at night, and live solely to devour and infect any remaining living creature in their path.
For three years, Neville has spent his days looking for food and supplies while sending out radio messages, desperate to find any other people who might have also survived, and his nights experimenting by his own immune blood in order to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus and sleeping with a rifle hoping that the infected don't find him.
Through the movie, the legions of infected are watching his every move waiting for him to make a fatal mistake and for a perfect moment to strike. Neville knows that he is outnumbered and his time is quickly running of…
The movie focuses on giving us a picture of "what it would be like"…to be the last man on Earth, and it does very convincingly and every moment is full of menace and pathos
